Blowout 101
Wash and Load
Shampoo hair, and apply
conditioner to the ends only to the ends to retain volume. Rinse well, blot
excess water with a towel, and massage roots with a nickel-size dab of mousse
or volumizer (for fine hair) or a golf ball-size blob of anti-frizz gel, styling
cream, or leave-in conditioner (for dry or puff-prone hair), and comb through.
Dry hair for 2-3 minutes on low speed and high heat: for extra volume, flip
hair upside down. Clip the top layers at the crown.
Dry Sections Gather a 2-inch
section of hair from the back of the head in a large brush. Hold the dryer –
still set on low speed and high heat – about 2 inches above the roots, and
point the nozzle downward. Applying tension, pull the brush and dryer along the
length of the hair, lifting at the roots and bending it under the ends. Repeat
until the back layers are dry, then reclip so the sides hang down. Repeat the
process on the sides, tugging hair up and away from the scalp for volume.
Smooth and Finish Gradually
unclip the layers, and don’t part hair. Working in 2-inch sections, roll the
brush as you follow with the dryer, but don’t curl ends under (to avoid helmet
head).. Once hair is dry, part it with a comb or fingers. For long, wavy, or
coarse hair, rub a dime-size dot of shine serum over the ends only. For fine or
normal textures, spritz hair spay on palms, and run them over hair. Tousle with
fingers if the style looks to prim and perfect.
